We are off and running with the Inference Strategy! Make sure that you are studying every night and practicing with this strategy in all of your classes!! Use the PowerPoint below to study up on our strategy, the steps, your key words, and much more!
We are on our way to starting a new unit! This unit will be all about making inferences and using those inferences to analyze a text. This is something that will be a MAJOR help to you when you read, in life and on standardized tests. You make inferences everyday and probably in every class. We will be talking about how and when to use them in the near future!
Now Let's Have Some FunTake the remainder of the time you have to play through some of the games linked below. They are all great for reviewing and practicing your inference skills! What Can You Infer? Blue Ribbon Readers: The Detective's Notebook Game Inference Riddles Inferences and Drawing Conclusions Inference Battleship Making Inferences: Study Zone Additional ResourcesYou will create a brochure about Dr. Martin Luther King today, read his famous "I Have A Dream Speech," and write your own "I Have A Dream" speech.
Brochure: Front: - On the front cover, draw a picture of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the box - Below the box with his picture, write your name - Fill in the information on each of the panels on the front side using the resources listed below. * First panel- research and describe Dr. King's early life * Next panel- research and describe Dr. King's lifetime achievements ** At the bottom, add additional information about his other amazing achievements * You will have to READ and research to find the information- it is all there so don't say "I CAN'T FIND IT!!" * All information should be neatly written and in complete sentences. Back: - First panel: In the box, draw anything that you feel represents Dr. King and his life or message - Second panel: research information about some of the important events in Dr. Kings life. Again, all information is on the sites listed below. - Third panel: describe Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech (both facts about it and the message it conveyed) * As you listen to the speech, follow along on the copy given to you. You can then mark it off of your bucket list! * At the bottom of the panel, write about your dream for the world (how you would help and convey the changes you envision) After you have finished with your brochure, fold it and turn it in. MAKE SURE that all work is complete, neatly written, and in complete sentences. If it is not, you will be redoing the ENTIRE project on your own time. Take a discovery walk through the two books you see before you. Read the front, read the back, and read the first few pages. After you are done with BOTH, complete the survey below. This will help me determine what book you will read as we do our first big practice with the signposts!
We are off and running with our Google Classroom! Make sure that you are keeping up with your assignments and that you are turning things in on time. A few reminders: - When you are ready to submit work, make sure you click the blue TURN IN button. If you don't, I won't get your work. - When you take pictures of your work to submit, make sure that you have taken a clear picture that shows your work. Stand over your work and don't take the picture at an angle. We are having fun learning our DISSECT strategy to help us learn how to say words and to know what they mean. In order to help us remember the steps, I have rewritten the lyrics to Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean?" to review our word parts, where they are located and the steps to our DISSECT strategy. Below you will find the lyrics for our rewrite, the lyric video so that you can sing along and hear how the tune goes, and the instrumental video so that you can practice without the words. Remember that next week we will be making a video for our song.... so study up!!
