We have been learning more about Word Maps and how to use them to determine the meanings of words. There are steps to completing this strategy that we will go through each and every time we are defining an unfamiliar word. Remember that the longer you do this, the more you will internalize this strategy. That is, after all, the goal. Our brains need to build up the know-how and that is why we will be doing a lot of practicing. Remember that these are the steps for Word Mapping:
M- Map out the word parts (identify the prefixes, suffixes, and roots)
A- Attack the meanings of the word parts (look them up on the Morphemes list)
P- Predict the word meaning based on step "A"
S- See if you are right (look for context clues in the text or you can use a dictionary)
Both the Morphemes List and the Word Maps Flipped Lesson (video) are in the "Resources" as well, so make sure to use them if you need them.
